Metallic Epoxy Floors in Otsego, MN

Metallic Floors · Otsego, MN

Flowing, marble-like floors worked by hand on your slab

Metallic epoxy floors turn a bare, dusty concrete floor into a glossy one with flowing, marble-like movement. Metallic pigments go into clear epoxy, and the wet coat is worked by hand into swirls and veins. Every floor is one of a kind. Metallic is one of the finishes in our epoxy floor coatings, and it goes down over a diamond-ground, repaired slab.

Slab Lab Coatings installs metallic epoxy floors in basements, home bars, entertainment spaces, showrooms, offices and garages. Where a room needs grip more than shine, a quartz floor is the textured option. From our Otsego base we work across the Twin Cities metro, and our jobs include a metallic floor in Anoka. Call or text (612) 702-9724 for a free on-site estimate.

How is a metallic epoxy floor made?

A metallic epoxy floor is built in layers over a sound slab. We diamond grind the concrete with dust extraction, then repair cracks and pits and run a moisture test. Slab Lab Coatings was founded by a former coating inspector, and this is the prep an inspector checks for. Epoxy is rigid, so a crack that keeps moving can still show through later.

Metallic floors usually start with a tinted base coat, often black, which gives the metallic layer contrast and depth. Next, metallic pigments are mixed into clear epoxy and spread over the floor. While the coat is still wet, it is shaped by hand into bold swirls or soft, cloudy movement. The pigments keep drifting as the epoxy levels, and the look settles as it cures overnight.

The last coat is our polyaspartic topcoat. Bare epoxy can amber, or yellow, in sunlight. The topcoat is UV stable and will not yellow, and it hardens in 6 to 8 hours. Each coat cures overnight before the next goes on, so a metallic epoxy floor usually takes 2 to 3 days.

Metallic floors for Twin Cities basements, home bars and showrooms

University of Minnesota Extension notes that more Minnesota basements are being finished as living space. Before a metallic floor goes into a basement, the slab gets a moisture test. A slab that reads high gets a moisture-mitigating primer before the base coat, as with any basement floor coating. Then a family room or home bar gets a floor that wipes clean.

In a business, metallic suits showrooms and offices, where the floor is part of the first impression. We plan the work around your operation. Shops, warehouses and industrial spaces often need more grip; our commercial floor coatings include quartz and textured systems.

Quartz epoxy floors for wet, busy rooms

A quartz epoxy floor trades some gloss for grip. Colored quartz sand is broadcast into wet epoxy, often in two layers. The loose sand is swept off, and clear coats seal the rest. The result is a textured floor built for wet areas and heavy foot traffic.

The topcoat sets the texture. A thinner clear coat leaves more grit showing, and a thicker one gives a finer texture with more shine. Coating makers build quartz systems for commercial kitchens, restrooms, locker rooms and showers.

At home, quartz fits a utility room, a basement or a garage that sees water and hard use. Choose metallic for looks in a dry room, and quartz where floors stay wet.

How We Work

How a Job With Slab Lab Coatings Runs

From the first call to the final topcoat, here is how it goes.

1

Free On-Site Estimate

Call or text (612) 702-9724, or send the form. We look at the slab and put the system, repairs, mil thickness and price in writing.

2

Diamond Grind and Moisture Check

We diamond grind the slab with dust extraction to open the surface for a strong bond. Then we test the concrete for moisture.

3

Crack and Pit Repair

We fill cracks and chips, including salt pits near the door. The coating goes down over sound, smooth concrete.

4

Base Coat

A high-solids, self-priming epoxy or polyaspartic base coat goes down over the ground slab. This is the layer that bonds to the concrete.

5

Full Flake and Scrape

We broadcast polymer flake across the wet base coat until it is fully covered. Then we scrape off the excess for a consistent texture and grip.

6

Seal With a Polyaspartic Topcoat

A scratch-resistant, UV-stable polyaspartic topcoat seals the floor and hardens in 6 to 8 hours. The crew leaves care instructions and tells you when to park.

FAQ

Metallic Floors Questions, Answered

Common questions about metallic floors across the northwest metro and the Twin Cities, about 40 miles around Otsego. If yours is not here, call and ask.

Call (612) 702-9724

How long does a metallic epoxy floor take to install?
Most metallic epoxy floors take 2 to 3 days. Prep and the base coat come first, then the metallic coat, then the topcoat, and each coat cures overnight. Coating makers commonly call for a day or two before light foot traffic. Heavy furniture and cars usually wait 5 to 7 days.
How much does a metallic epoxy floor cost?
It depends on your floor, so we price it at a free on-site estimate. Square footage, slab condition and repairs are the big factors. The moisture test result, the design and the topcoat options matter too. Call or text (612) 702-9724, and the estimate spells out the system, the mil thickness and the repairs.
Is a metallic epoxy floor slippery?
It can be slippery when wet, like any glossy floor. A fine grit can be mixed into the topcoat for more grip. It adds a light texture and tones down the shine a little. For rooms that stay wet, a quartz epoxy floor is the better choice.
Can a metallic floor go in during a Minnesota winter?
Yes, indoors in a heated space. Epoxy needs warmth to cure, and one metallic epoxy maker sets the minimum at 55 degrees. A heated basement usually stays warm enough, while an unheated garage needs heat first. Basement slabs still get a moisture test, and our guide to basement slab moisture explains why.
Can I get a metallic garage floor?
Yes, a metallic garage floor is an option. Snowmelt off a car makes a glossy floor slick, so a metallic garage floor should get grit in the topcoat. Our full-flake garage floor coating has grip built in, so compare the two at the estimate.
How do I clean a metallic epoxy floor?
Sweep or dust mop often, then damp mop with warm water or a mild, neutral cleaner. Grit tracked in from outside scratches and dulls a glossy floor, so walk-off mats at the doors help. Test any new cleaner on a small, hidden spot first, and wipe up spills quickly.

Josh was amazing to work with. He personally called after I did the Facebook quote and scheduled an estimate for the next day. He got me on the schedule within 2 weeks. The crew arrived at 8am sharp, and were gone by 2pm doing my 3 stall garage. It’s been 2 months and it’s still the favorite update we’ve done to our house since buying. I can’t recommend Josh and Slab Labs enough for getting your garage floor upgraded.

We were so happy with the new garage floor coating Slab Lab did in our garage. Josh was very informative and helpful every step of the way. The workers, Rey and Alex, arrived on time, were very hard working, courteous, and very skilled in all aspects of the job. They were all so pleasant and easy to work with. The floor is beautiful—no more ugly salt damaged concrete! Thanks, Slab Lab!

Highly recommend. I’ve had the floor in my garage for about a year, and it still looks brand new. If I move, I’ll be calling them again for the next garage.
