Questions About Floor Coatings Around Otsego and the Twin Cities

How long before I can park on a new garage floor coating?
It depends on the products and the slab temperature, and the crew gives you the times before they leave. Our polyaspartic topcoat hardens in 6 to 8 hours. For cars, one polyaspartic maker's data sheet lists 2 days before vehicle traffic. A cold slab cures slower, so plan on more time in cool weather.
How much does a garage floor coating cost?
The price depends on your floor, so we price it at a free on-site estimate. Six things set it: the square footage, the slab's condition, the repairs, the moisture test, the system and the finish. For market ranges, see our guide to garage floor coating costs in Minnesota.
What areas do you serve?
We are based in Otsego and work across the Twin Cities metro, with the northwest side first. That includes Elk River, Rogers, Maple Grove, Plymouth, Brooklyn Park, Blaine and Andover, plus Minnetonka, Minneapolis and St. Paul. If your town is not listed, call or text (612) 702-9724 and ask.
Can you coat floors in the winter?
Yes for indoor floors: basements and heated spaces can be coated all winter. Outside and in unheated garages, the slab temperature decides. One polyaspartic data sheet lists 60°F to 90°F as the best range, with a 40°F minimum. Normal Twin Cities highs top 60°F only from May through September, the season for porches, patios and pool decks.
Should I choose epoxy or polyaspartic for my garage floor?
Our garage floors get polyaspartic on top, over an epoxy or polyaspartic base coat. Epoxy bonds well to ground concrete but can yellow in sunlight, so it sits under the topcoat. The polyaspartic topcoat is UV stable and hardens in 6 to 8 hours. Read epoxy vs polyaspartic vs polyurea for the full comparison.
Can you coat a pitted or cracked garage floor?
Yes, and the repair comes first. We fill cracks and salt pitting before the base coat goes down. Slabs with deeper damage can get a resurfacing overlay first; see concrete repair and resurfacing. A crack that keeps moving can still show through a coating later on.
What is Rubber Stone?
Rubber Stone is a trowel-down surface of rubber granules and polyurethane that goes over existing concrete. It is made for driveways, pool decks, patios, walkways, steps and garage floors, and its maker calls it skid-resistant. Slab Lab Coatings is an authorized Rubber Stone dealer, and our Rubber Stone rubber surfacing page covers colors and care.
Do you coat commercial floors?
Yes. We coat warehouses, shops, retail stores, offices and showrooms with systems built for heavy equipment and chemical exposure. Slip-resistant quartz and textured finishes are available, and we plan the work around your operation. See commercial floor coatings for the details.
